I use a Mac, and after installing an OS update, one or more of my MIDI devices aren't communicating with the computer or are acting strangely. What should I do?
By default, Mac allows you to record audio from Mac internal mic, which is fine if you want to take quick audio notes. However, if you want professional Most the following Mac Audio recorder allows you to change audio source. Down below, we have covered some of the best audio recording software for. TASCAM's US-4x4 combines great audio quality and ergonomic design for a powerful 4-in/4-out USB 2 audio interface. 4-In 4-Out USB Audio MIDI Interface. The US-4x4 includes class-compliant drivers for plug-and-play operation on Mac OSX and iOS devices like the iPad, and a simple driver adds ASIO compatibility for Windows.
When installing a major Mac OS update over an existing one (not using a clean install), or when using Apple's Migration Assistant to transfer files and preferences from one Mac to another, you will often run into trouble with drivers not working properly, authorizations being lost or corrupted etc. When files are mixed between systems, or are transferred to a system they weren't specifically intended or created for, difficulty is always a possibility.
The suggesions below may help resolve these symptoms.
If your MIDI devices don't work properly after an update or migration.
Often, after an update or migration, you will need to 'refresh' certain MIDI devices. This is done quickly and easily in your Mac's Audio MIDI Setup.
On your Mac, navigate to Utilities>Audio MIDI Setup
Go to Window>Show MIDI Studio
Make sure your MIDI device is unplugged
After you've unplugged your MIDI device, click on it and choose Remove Device
Plug your MIDI device back into your computer
If the above steps do NOT resolve your issue...
Empty the contents of the following two folders by moving their files into to two new folders on your desktop: Macintosh HD > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers Macintosh HD > Users > [Your User Name] > Library > Audio > MIDI Drivers Note: the second location above is hidden on Mac OS X 10.7 and above. To access it see these instructions.
These are the places where third-party MIDI drivers are stored. If they have become corrupt, or they haven't been installed correctly, removing them and starting over may help.
Restart your computer.
Try your MIDI device again.
If the symptom has been resolved, you should...
Reinstall each of these drivers by visiting the home page for the respective device manufacturers. Note, if your MIDI device is Class Compliant, it doesn't require any extra drivers to be installed.
Find and download the latest drivers for the product(s), and install them.
Confirm all of your devices now work properly, then trash the files you had moved from your MIDI Drivers folder to your desktop.

3 Things You'll Need to Know
Is my product supported? We're happy to tell you that most M-Audio products are already supported on macOS High Sierra without any need for additional driver or firmware updates. If you haven't already, check our list of supported class-compliant and driver required products below to make sure your M-Audio product is ready for the update to High Sierra.
Apple's new OS includes new security features that require the user to allow a system extension when installing a new driver. This is very simple and only needs to be done once for each driver. So, if you're installing any new driver on macOS High Sierra, look out for the following pop-up message and check out the driver section for instructions. The good news is that this is only necessary if you are installing a new driver. If you are updating to High Sierra and already have the latest driver for your device installed, you will not need to re-install the driver or complete these steps.
While your M-Audio products are ready for macOS High Sierra, that doesn't mean everybody is. If you use one of our products with a third-party software title like Ableton or Cubase, be sure to check with the developer to confirm support for the new OS before updating.

To enable the extension and allow the driver, navigate to System Preferences > Security & Privacy. Restart the computer first if this is necessary to complete the driver installation. Under the General tab, look for the 'System software from developer '(driver developer)' was blocked from loading.'
Click Allow. Follow the prompts to restart the computer if necessary and the device will be recognized normally on startup. It will only be necessary to complete this process once.
